Specifying a well plan

Another way of creating and editing well plans is graphically using the tools on the floating palette (see Graphically creating wells and Graphically designing wells and well pads)

A well plan, stored under the well designs folder in the JewelExplorer, describes a well, including a sequence of well targets and related turning points. After you set the location of the wellhead, the drilling constraints and the target positions, the well trajectory connecting the targets, including the necessary turning points, is calculated according to a selected drilling calculation method (fixed radius or minimum curvature). The Well Plan Settings form (plan > Wells > Well Plan Settings) can be used to generate or update a well or wellbore.

Every time you create a new well plan, the settings as specified on the Well Plan Settings form are used. Upon opening the form, the settings as defined on the Drilling Constraints form are used for the parameters on this form. It is recommended that you review and change these settings if necessary when you are creating a well plan. To do so for a particular well plan, make sure the well plan is selected in the Well plan drop-down list at the top of the Well Plan Settings form. To change the settings for all wells you are planning, change the settings on the Drilling Constraints form.

When you are done specifying the settings, click Apply to save the changes and keep the form open, or click OK to save the changes and close the form.
